Placerita Canyon State Park covers a rugged 688-acre area located in the Sierra Pelona Mountains north of Los Angeles in Los Angeles County, California. The park is historically significant as the site of the 1842 discovery of gold in California, an event that preceded the famous 1849 gold rush and is commemorated at the park’s Discovery Center.
