About Pomme de Terre State Park

Pomme de Terre State Park offers a scenic retreat along the western shore of Pomme de Terre Lake in Minnesota, providing diverse outdoor recreation including hiking, camping, fishing, and water activities.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Located in west-central Minnesota, Pomme de Terre State Park encompasses over 1,500 acres on the eastern shore of the 5,500-acre Pomme de Terre Lake. The park features gently rolling hills, mixed hardwood and pine forests, marshes, and prairie patches that support a range of northern Midwest wildlife. Historically, this area was inhabited by Dakota and Ojibwe peoples before European settlement. Established in 1961, the park provides essential habitat for deer, bald eagles, and numerous migratory bird species. Visitors can explore more than 10 miles of hiking and biking trails that wind through oak forests and along the lake shore. The lake itself is renowned for its clear waters, sandy beaches, and abundant fish populations including walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, and panfish, making it a favored destination for anglers and boaters. The campground offers both drive-in and walk-in sites, many with lake views, along with modern amenities such as showers and electrical hookups. Pomme de Terre State Park also features picnic areas and a volleyball court. Winter visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing on groomed trails. The park's serene setting and mix of recreational opportunities make it a popular getaway for families and outdoor enthusiasts seeking both relaxation and active pursuits near Minneapolis and St. Cloud metropolitan areas.
