Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Sterling State Park is located in Monroe County along the western shore of Lake Erie, just south of Detroit, Michigan. Spanning over 1,420 acres, it is the state's largest waterfront park on Lake Erie and features more than a mile of sandy beach, marshlands, wooded areas, and open fields. The park is a critical habitat for migratory birds and offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching, fishing, swimming, and boating. Originally opened in 1945, Sterling served as a filming location and featured recreational amenities that have evolved to support family-friendly outdoor activities.
