Located within De Soto National Forest in Mississippi, Black Creek Wilderness lies approximately 20 miles southwest of Hattiesburg. Encompassing over 5,000 acres, this wilderness area offers a serene escape into nature, highlighted by its namesake river, Black Creek. Designated as a Wild and Scenic River, Black Creek meanders through the lush landscape, offering picturesque views and diverse habitats. The area is characterized by its dense pine forests, bayous, and bottomland hardwood forests. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and numerous bird species. Historically, the forest has been a refuge for early settlers and continues to be a vital ecosystem today.
