Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Sky Lakes Wilderness is situated on the crest of the Cascade Mountains and provides a rich array of geographic features, including dense forests, rugged cliffs, and numerous glacially formed lakes. This area is part of both the Rogue River-Siskiyou and Fremont-Winema National Forests, offering a blend of spectacular vistas and opportunities for solitude. The region's ecological diversity is notable, supporting old-growth forests of hemlock and fir, as well as alpine meadows that host a variety of wildflowers. The history of the area is intertwined with Native American cultures and early settlers who traversed these ridges.
