About Bowers Beach Wildlife Management Area

Bowers Beach Wildlife Management Area is a coastal refuge in Delaware offering diverse habitats for birdwatching, waterfowl hunting, and fishing along the Delaware Bay.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Bowers Beach Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is located in Kent County, Delaware, along the shores of the Delaware Bay near the small community of Bowers Beach. The area consists of brackish tidal marshes, coastal wetlands, and open water, creating a vital habitat for a wide variety of migratory birds and native wildlife. The WMA plays an important role in protecting fish spawning grounds and supporting populations of waterfowl such as black ducks, Canada geese, and various shorebird species. Historically, this land has been used for hunting and fishing, and it continues to be managed by the Delaware Division of Fish & Wildlife to support these traditional uses while balancing conservation goals. Visitors come for birdwatching, especially during spring and fall migrations, as well as for saltwater fishing along the bay’s edge. The area lacks developed trails or campgrounds but offers rustic access points and waterfowl blinds for seasonal hunting. Its tidal marshes and bay shoreline make it a unique spot to observe Delaware’s coastal ecosystem and waterfowl populations in one of the state's prime wildlife habitat areas. Visitors appreciate the quiet, open expanse and excellent opportunities for nature observation and recreational fishing. The proximity to Bowers Beach and nearby town of Dover provides access and amenities while maintaining a natural, undisturbed environment within the WMA.
