Camp Ripley Wildlife Management Area (WMA), located in central Minnesota near Little Falls, is situated on the grounds of Camp Ripley, a Minnesota National Guard training facility. Spanning over 67,000 acres, this WMA provides a unique combination of military training grounds and protected natural habitat. The landscape consists of mixed hardwood forests, wetlands, prairies, and riverine environments shaped by the Mississippi River which runs through the property. The area supports a diverse range of wildlife including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, waterfowl, and many songbird species, making it a prime destination for hunting and bird watching. Camp Ripley's history dates back to its establishment in 1929 as a military training site, but it has long supported conservation and public outdoor recreation through managed access. Visitors can explore numerous trails suited for hiking and mountain biking, fish in the Mississippi River, and enjoy seasonal snowshoeing and cross-country skiing during winter months.
