Caney Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) spans approximately 14,460 acres in the Ouachita Mountains of western Arkansas, near the city of Mena. The property is managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and is characterized by steep ridges, deep hollows, and a network of cold, clear streams including Caney Creek itself. The terrain is heavily forested with mature hardwoods and pine, providing prime habitat for white-tailed deer, black bear, wild turkey, and numerous songbirds and small mammals. The area is particularly known for its pristine trout streams, attracting anglers interested in rainbow and brown trout fishing in the cool, shaded waters. Originating as timber property, the WMA was established to protect wildlife habitat while providing hunting and outdoor recreation opportunities. Visitors can explore several miles of rugged hiking trails that offer scenic views, waterfalls, and remote backcountry experiences. Hunting is a popular activity during regulated seasons, especially for deer and small game. The WMA has minimal developed facilities, appealing to outdoor enthusiasts seeking solitude and unspoiled nature.
