Dierks Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is situated adjacent to Dierks Lake, a 3,000-acre reservoir on the Saline River in Howard County, Arkansas. Managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, this WMA encompasses thousands of acres of forest, wetlands, and open water habitats, providing an important refuge for a variety of wildlife species. The landscape includes mixed hardwoods, pine plantations, and bottomland hardwood forests, supporting populations of white-tailed deer, wild turkey, waterfowl, and numerous fish species such as largemouth bass and catfish. Established in conjunction with the construction of Dierks Lake by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the early 1980s, the WMA provides extensive recreational opportunities including fishing from boat ramps and shoreline, hunting in designated seasons, birdwatching, and daylight hiking. Its proximity to the lake enables boating and paddle sports, while designated areas offer access for wildlife photography and nature study. The area is less developed than larger national parks but appeals particularly to anglers, waterfowl hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking quiet natural settings in southwest Arkansas. The WMA is an important component of regional habitat conservation, balancing recreation with wildlife management and habitat enhancement efforts. Visitors can experience scenic views of the lake and surrounding forests, enriched by the rich biodiversity of the area.
