Located in Rockingham County in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the Little River Wildlife Management Area encompasses approximately 2,625 acres of diverse habitat. The area features mature hardwood forests dominated by oak, hickory, and maple, interspersed with agricultural fields and riparian zones along the Little River. This mosaic of environments supports a rich variety of wildlife including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, small game, and waterfowl. It is managed primarily for hunting and wildlife conservation by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. Visitors to Little River WMA can enjoy seasonal hunting, hiking on a network of unpaved service roads and trails, wildlife observation, and photography. There are no developed campgrounds within the area, which makes it a quieter destination for day use. The WMA’s river frontage provides important habitat for aquatic species and is a scenic spot for anglers targeting trout and other game fish. Little River WMA holds local historical significance with traces of early agricultural use visible in field edges and old fence lines. Its location near the Blue Ridge Mountains adds visual appeal, with the distant ridges framing the natural landscape. Access points are primarily off Highway 33, with parking areas at designated entry points.
