Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Playa La Flor Wildlife Refuge is located on the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua and spans an area encompassing both terrestrial and marine habitats. The refuge is crucial for the protection of the endangered olive ridley sea turtles, which come ashore in mass nesting events known as arribadas. These events occur mainly from July to January, attracting visitors keen on witnessing this natural spectacle. Aside from sea turtles, the refuge is home to various bird species, reptiles, and coastal flora. The reserve offers visitors a chance to explore its unspoiled beaches, rocky cliffs, and rich biodiversity. It also plays an essential role in local community conservation efforts, aiming to preserve its unique ecosystems. Guided tours and volunteer opportunities provide immersive experiences and deeper understanding of the area's environmental importance.
