Located in the northeastern part of Phuket, Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Sanctuary spans a region of protected forests that are among the last remaining examples of virgin rainforest on the island. The sanctuary serves as a crucial habitat for a diverse range of wildlife, including gibbons, civets, and the rare white-handed gibbons, which are actively part of conservation and rehabilitation projects. The dense foliage and challenging terrain provide both an adventurous outdoor setting and a sanctuary for flora and fauna that are under threat from urban development elsewhere in Phuket. With a variety of hiking trails, including the popular Bang Pae waterfall trail, visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of the sanctuary while observing its ecological wonders. The sanctuary is also home to the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, which works to rescue, rehabilitate, and return gibbons to the wild. Khao Phra Thaeo not only protects wildlife but also provides an important resource for environmental education and sustainable nature tourism.
