THE ROUTE

14 rapids culminate at Tutea Falls

The raft section takes you down 14 named rapids and over the world‑famous 7‑metre Tutea Falls — a defining moment of the run — with guides navigating canyoned river passages and placing safety at the fore.

THE RIDE

Sledge the Kaituna: eye‑level whitewater

After the raft, the sledging leg lets you control your own small craft and use flippers to move through playholes and rapids, an interactive, lower‑profile way to feel the river up close with guide support.

THE CONTEXT

Culture, coaching and family‑friendly support

Guides weave practical instruction with stories of the Kaituna’s cultural significance, and the operator emphasizes support and safety to keep the day accessible and enjoyable for groups and families.

The day begins at the operator base for check‑in, safety briefing and gearing up, then moves by vehicle to the river access at Ōkere Falls for the raft run where guides lead the team through a sequence of rapids and the climactic Tutea Falls. After returning to base there’s a sledging segment that places you at water level, kicking and navigating with guide encouragement, before finishing back at the base to remove gear and review photos.
