What the day feels like

What the two-hour float feels like

Expect a sociable, splash-forward outing: kit up at the hub, board stable tubes and drift downstream with moments of minor adrenaline as the group negotiates short grade-2 rapids. The guides set the pace, advise on kit and technique, and keep the session moving so the two-hour window—from arrival to goodbye—feels full but unrushed.

Frequently asked questions

Planning Your Outing

Are there any age or weight restrictions?

Minimum age is 6 due to the size limits of the safety equipment. The weight/size restriction is effectively a chest-size limit: the largest buoyancy aid fits a maximum chest size of 58".

Do you have toilet and changing facilities?

Yes. Toilets are situated in the main building at GBCJ and there is an area for changing at the Rapid Horizons hub. Bring a towel or changing robe for getting in and out of wet kit.

Is there somewhere to eat on site?

Yes. The Filling Station Cafe in GBCJ serves food and drinks, including specialty coffee.

Is it dangerous? What if I fall in?

River activities carry an element of risk, but all activities are risk assessed and led by instructors who hold Paddle UK leadership qualifications; participants are supplied with buoyancy aids and other safety equipment. Guides are first-aid and safeguarding trained.

Are the rapids big?

No. The maximum grade on this section is grade 2, meaning the rapids are on the smaller end of the grading scale—suitable for both thrill-seekers and less confident participants.

Does the activity still go ahead if it is raining?

Yes. Tubing runs in rain; only severe weather warnings or unsuitable river conditions would cause a postponement (see the operator’s Terms & Conditions).

Can I change the date of my activity once it is booked?

Yes, provided the change is not within seven days of your booked activity date; further details are set out in the operator’s Terms & Conditions.
