Bring a swimsuit and sunscreen; the operator provides rash guards and reef shoes and supplies boards, wetsuits, leashes, and surf wax.
Lessons run daily at 9:00 AM, 10:15 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:45 PM, 2:00 PM, and 3:15 PM; many guests prefer earlier slots for calmer morning conditions.
Meet at the Jamie O’Brien Surf Experience shop on the beach level of the Ritz‑Carlton Oahu, Turtle Bay (57-091 Kamehameha Hwy, Kahuku). Follow the resort directions to the Surf House and stairs down to the shop entrance.
Full payment is required at booking; cancellations up to 48 hours prior receive a full refund. Changes inside 48 hours are not guaranteed but may be accommodated when possible.

If the forecast shows large waves, will my lesson be canceled or will I be forced to surf in big surf?
No. The operator can adjust the surf location on property to match the day’s conditions and access beginner waves year‑round; if the local spot is unsuitable, complimentary golf‑cart transfers to alternate on‑property locations are provided.
Will Jamie O’Brien personally teach my lesson?
Although Jamie O’Brien owns and operates the surf school, he does not personally teach lessons; instructors are hand‑selected by him and deliver the lessons.
Can intermediate or advanced surfers get coaching here?
The program specializes in beginners and first‑time surfers; advanced coaching is not offered in the group lesson format, though the shop can provide referrals for advanced instruction if requested.
What equipment is provided?
All necessary equipment is provided, including surfboards, wetsuits, leashes, and surf wax.
What happens during a lesson?

Yes — the operator welcomes guests of varying abilities, but guests who require extra attention, non-swimmers, and very young children are expected to take private lessons so appropriate safety measures and instructor ratios can be provided.
