THE PERFORMANCE

A theatrical re-creation of the film inside the carriage

The production brings the 2004 motion picture to life aboard the train—dancing chefs and actors perform throughout the carriages so every passenger is part of the story.

THE MAGIC MOMENTS

Santa, a sleigh bell and festive treats

Guests will meet the conductor and Santa during the experience, receive a silver bell as the first gift of Christmas, and each passenger is given hot chocolate and a cookie.

THE ROLLING STOCK

Heritage carriages hauled by a real steam engine

The ride departs Birmingham Moor Street and takes place on board heritage carriages hauled by a real steam engine on the return journey, framing the theatrical performance with authentic steam-era atmosphere.

What the day feels like

What the experience feels like

The experience begins at Birmingham Moor Street: a staged opening in the station’s Cube, followed by boarding heritage carriages for a moving performance that carries guests out of the city and back while actors play out scenes around the tables. Expect a compact, two-hour run that culminates with cast photos in front of the steam engine.

Meeting & check‑in

All performances depart from Birmingham Moor Street station; Golden Tickets are issued at check-in and finalised train times and seat allocations are emailed 2–5 days before your ride—allow extra time for traffic and car parking, or at least an additional 30 minutes if arriving by national rail.

Frequently asked questions

Planning Your Outing

What is THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride?

A theatrically re-created performance of the 2004 motion picture that leaves Birmingham Moor Street station and takes place on board heritage carriages hauled on the return journey by a real steam engine.

How long is the performance?

You should allow 2 hours for the whole experience; the beginning starts at Moor Street station in the Cube and the rest takes place on the train.

Are seats the same price for adults and children?

Yes—prices are for a seat and are the same for adults and children; children aged 3 and under can travel free if they do not occupy a seat but must be added to the booking (one infant per two adults).

When and how will I receive my Golden Tickets?

Golden Tickets are issued when checking in at Birmingham Moor Street station before you board the train.

What should I do if I arrive late or miss my performance?

Timings are extremely strict because the trains run on the mainline; doors are locked at cut-offs and staff will try to help, but there is no guarantee of seats on the next train.

Is the event accessible to those with disabilities?

Vintage Trains aims to provide assistance where possible but heritage rolling stock means they cannot carry wheelchairs in many cases; if a wheelchair user can climb a step and walk a short distance, staff can assist with boarding and wheelchairs will be transferred to the arrival station.

Will we be seated together as a large party?

Seating is in fixed table configurations; bookings are taken in twos or fours and the operator will endeavour to seat larger parties at adjacent tables but cannot guarantee all members will be together.
