Today, I brought my family to Truc Lam Zen Buddhist Temple in Dalat, also widely known as Truc Lam Zen Monastery. It turned out to be one of those places where the journey itself was just as enjoyable as the destination. We took the cable car from Robin Hill, also known as the Dalat Cable Car Tourist Area. The cable car was very affordable, smooth and incredibly picturesque, making it a wonderful way to experience Dalat from a completely different perspective. As we travelled above the hills, we were treated to beautiful views of Dalat town and its surrounding landscape. Below us were endless pine forests, rolling hills, rivers and lakes, creating a very peaceful and scenic view. The cool breeze at this elevation made the ride even more comfortable and refreshing. Upon arriving at Truc Lam Zen Monastery, we found ourselves surrounded by beautiful trees, flowers and carefully maintained gardens. There are several temple buildings throughout the complex where visitors can worship and spend some quiet time. The monastery itself is huge, peaceful and incredibly relaxing. I particularly enjoyed the various small gardens scattered around the grounds, each with its own character and design. It is the kind of place where you don’t really need to rush from one attraction to another. Simply walking around, enjoying the scenery and taking in the peaceful atmosphere is already rewarding. At the lower part of the monastery, there is a small pond, and just beside it lies Tuyen Lam Lake, one of Dalat’s most beautiful and significant lakes. The combination of the temple grounds, gardens, surrounding pine forests and the lake creates a remarkably tranquil setting. We spent some time here simply relaxing together as a family before eventually making our way back to the hotel. We were lucky too, because not long after we left, the rain started coming down. Looking back, it was definitely time well spent. From the scenic cable car journey to the peaceful monastery and beautiful natural surroundings, Truc Lam Zen Monastery is a wonderful place to visit if you’re looking for a quieter and more relaxing side of Dalat.
