About This Adventure Destination

Bridal Veil Falls near Alamogordo, New Mexico, offers a captivating natural retreat in the heart of the Tularosa Basin. This charming waterfall cascades over rugged rocky cliffs, providing a striking contrast against the arid landscape of the region. Unlike many waterfalls fed by large rivers, Bridal Veil Falls is celebrated for its gentle flow and picturesque surroundings, including distinctive rock formations shaped by volcanic activity millions of years ago. The area also supports unique high-desert plant species and a variety of wildlife tuned to this specialized ecosystem.

Visitors come for more than just the waterfall’s beauty. The site holds cultural significance, with ties to local indigenous communities who regard this area with respect for its spiritual past. Along the hiking routes leading to the falls, remnants of old miners’ cabins and interpretive signs offer glimpses into the region’s railroad and mining history, enriching the experience. The falls themselves, although moderate in water volume, stand at a respectable height that provides a tranquil soundscape and photo-worthy views.

Accessible via well-maintained trails, Bridal Veil Falls is a perfect destination for casual hikers, families, and photographers seeking quiet moments in nature. The best visits occur during cooler months or early mornings when the trail is less populated, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere. Despite its relative obscurity compared to larger New Mexico landmarks, Bridal Veil Falls remains a standout location for appreciating natural beauty and regional history within a short drive of Alamogordo.

Editorial Assessment

Bridal Veil Falls is a captivating and serene natural attraction, ideal for those seeking a quaint and intimate encounter with nature. Its beauty and tranquility are noteworthy but it remains a less-researched spot compared to other major natural destinations.

I really enjoyed this hike. It wasn't crowded at all. It was a fairly easy hike. The falls were beautiful and peaceful. They aren't huge as far as the amount of water flowing over the edge, but it is a decent height. Being able to see the few old buildings around the falls and the signs that were put up to give the history about the buildings was so fascinating.

Beautiful, frozen falls. BUT the trash and micro trash around the falls is depressing. People for heavens sake, don’t be careless, protect the outdoors and be more responsible. Cigarette butts, orange peels, candy wrappers, it breaks my heart to see so much trash at the falls. I picked up some but didn’t have a garbage bag with me. Leave no trace behind, no one wants to see your trash next to a beautiful waterfalls. 🙏🏼 Easy hike. We started at the Salado Canyon Trestle trailhead and came back to the Grandview Trailhead, finally walked on the paved road to our parked car. We wanted a longer hike, it was around 5 miles. Perfect winter day, blue skies and not a single person on the trail. We went on a Friday morning. Most people start showing up later on in the day.
