Fenton Lake State Park is a cold spot - one of the only places in New Mexico that features ski areas, snow, and weather/geography similar to the cascades in the northwest. When coming in the winter, be prepared for frozen water pipes in the trailer campground. This means you should have a lot of water bottles ready when you can fill it up for free. There is a ski area called Pajarito Ski Area. Valles Caldera National Monument is nearby. Temperatures drop below freezing in the winter.
