Others kept telling me the summit was only 15 minutes away, so I got tricked into going up, only to find that an hour had passed! But the people coming down from above kept saying "almost there," so I got fooled again and ended up climbing for about two hours. Even though I've never hiked before, it was truly breathtaking. A tsunami of emotion is washing over me. Highly recommended. I want to go again.

At the end of the trail to Upper Falls there's a sign pointing you toward the Ink Pots. Fair warning, this stretch isn't easy — it's over 2.2 km one way, so come prepared mentally and physically. Lots of climbing, and plenty of loose rocky sections along the way. Hiking boots and trekking poles make a real difference here. The payoff comes near the end as you approach the small pools. You start hearing the water, then everything opens up in front of you. The color of those pools is beautiful, a kind of jade green that doesn't look real. I saw a few groups who'd packed food to eat once they got there — there are benches at the end, so that's a solid plan if you're up for it. The main thing you need is patience and decent legs. Enjoy the walk, and safe travels out there.

The Ink Pots are magnificent, fascinating natural phenomena with small eddies at the bottom of each pot displaying beautiful colors. Definitely worth seeing after Johnston Canyon!

A very pleasant walk, but quite physically demanding as it's entirely uphill. Allow at least 3.5 hours for the round trip. The parking management at the bottom is rather disastrous, so arrive early (before 10 am) or from 2-3 pm onwards.
