This winter hike along the Slate River is pure Colorado magic. Super flat and easy in and out trail. We saw a couple taking their wedding pictures when we arrived. Parking in the loop is easy and plentiful

An Unforgettable Adventure on the Lower Loop in Crested Butte The Lower Loop mountain bike trail in Crested Butte is a gem that combines breathtaking views with an accessible yet incredibly fun ride. It's the perfect trail for those who, like us, want to enjoy the scenery without the pressure of an overly technical route. What captivated us most was the perfect balance it offers. Although considered an easy route, it has very fluid and entertaining sections that make you feel like you're on a roller coaster, especially on the descents. These moments of pure adrenaline are the reward for the gentle climbs and the immense beauty that surrounds you. The highlight of our adventure was the stop we made when we reached the river. It was a true haven of peace. The views and the tranquility of the water offered us a well-deserved rest, a moment to simply be and absorb nature in its purest form. The return trip was equally spectacular. We took the dirt road that led us back to town, hugging the riverbank. The trail is almost entirely downhill, allowing us to effortlessly enjoy the scenery. With Peanut Lake to our left and the fascinating remains of old mining structures along the path, the ride was a journey through the history and nature of Crested Butte. In short, the Lower Loop is a must-do for any cyclist. It's the perfect combination of accessibility, fun, and natural beauty that will leave you wanting to return and explore it again.
