About This Adventure Destination

Canaan Valley Resort Campground in Davis, West Virginia offers visitors a refreshing outdoor getaway within the Appalachian Mountains region. This campground stands out because of its unique setting amid one of the largest freshwater wetlands in the central and southern Appalachian area. The valley’s history as a glacial formation creates distinct high-elevation terrain with cooler temperatures, making it a popular summer retreat.

Key features include expansive wetlands, rich conifer forests, and streams that support rare plant and animal species not often seen elsewhere in the region. The surrounding landscape forms a perfect balance of marshy lowlands and forested hillsides, attracting birdwatchers and nature lovers eager to spot wildlife in their natural habitat. Close by is the stunning Blackwater Falls State Park, where the impressive 57-foot waterfall adds dramatic scenic beauty to the visit.

The campground itself appeals to all types of visitors—from tent campers to RV travelers—with recent upgrades such as a modern bathhouse and new RV sites offering 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups. Shaded sites with mature oaks contrast with sections providing sunny mountain views. Trails begin directly at the campsite, inviting leisurely walks or hikes that reach the resort lodge about 1.5 miles away, where dining and additional activities await.

Long-time campers praise the well-maintained grounds and friendly staff, and many return year after year to enjoy the peaceful environment. Whether arriving for a quiet weekend or an extended stay, Canaan Valley Resort Campground provides a welcoming base for enjoying West Virginia’s fresh mountain air and diverse ecosystems.

Editorial Assessment

Canaan Valley Resort Campground is a fantastic natural retreat with diverse ecosystems and great recreational opportunities. Its unique wetland habitats contribute to its appeal, but it lacks the global recognition to rank as an iconic natural landmark.

I have been camping at Callan Valley Resort Campground when I go to Timberline Mountain snowboarding. They have 50amp and 30amp and 20amp electricity running. So, it was enough to run heater and charge my car. 10 min from TM and clean restroom.

Amazing campground that I will forever remember. Eric, the campground security officer, helped me find my dog with bloat who had wandered off into the woods. Without Eric and Susan’s help, Luna would likely not be with me today. I can’t thank you all enough!

This is our second time camping at Cannan Valley campground. This time we booked at the new sites. Each site comes with 30/50 AMP Electric & Water & Sewer. The new added bathhouse is clean. There are a lot of trails near by. Highly recommend to camp at Canaan Valley Campground.
