Winter Wonderland at Canaan Valley Ski Resort

Great destination! Enjoyed the open trail and peaceful outdoor atmosphere.

We visited for a conference in the summer. Lots of fun, but a bit pricey for some things. Definitely an A plus for outdoor activity!

This was a disappointing experience. For the cost, there really wasn't a lot in terms of accommodation and the building was in need of some work. The ski area was also underwhelming. Additionally- there were dead flies in the tub, hair in the sink and on the sheets, and used flossers next to the bed. I also had an incredibly rude experience with one of the servers in the dining room (server being a loose term because it was self-service and the host was the only one who even acknowledged me). The guy seating was very friendly but it was immediately obvious one of the servers was in a bad mood. I wasn't told the breakfast buffet cost anything and watched multiple people walk out without seeming to pay or do anything. I also stacked my dishes and bussed my table as much as I could and sat there for at least 20 minutes with no one approaching me, checking in, giving a check, anything and was enjoying the view with my used, empty dishes on the table in front of me. After looking around several times to the dining room being empty and no staff, I finally left and went down to the gift store and front desk. As I was approaching the elevator a server rushed over and said in a nasty tone "....your check?" I said "oh! I'm sorry!" I immediately followed her, paid, AND tipped, but before I even made it back to the elevator I heard that same server loudly talking about and mocking me. This would be wildly inappropriate in any circumstance, but it did not help that this was just a few hours after I found out my step-dad had passed- on Christmas Eve. I let the front desk know and she was very apologetic and assured me it would be handled. I never heard anything else after that and there was no real attempt at resolution when I submitted this same information on the survey they asked me to complete. Aside from these items, Sara with the front desk and Toria with the activities were both incredibly kind and helped with improving the stay.

I went to Canaan Valley to learn to ski for the first time, and I have to say it was very beginner friendly! The Critters Crawl bunny hill was great for practicing, and the green trails were perfect for learning. I started at Sissy Schuss and Bunny Buster, then tried the "B" Slope, and then finished with Timber Trail. Timber Trail itself was beautiful! The park as a whole was not very crowded and very affordable, and the staff were all extremely friendly. I will definitely be returning again soon!
