Anyone visiting Gjirokastra simply must go up here. The castle is absolutely worth seeing, and the fantastic view over the city rewards the climb. It's also very dog-friendly (dogs are allowed inside!). At €5, the ticket price is very reasonable and worth every penny. Thumbs up!

The castle and the city are beautiful. Be careful when parking your car, as you'll get fined! The streets are very well-kept, with quaint shops and the inevitable souvenirs. The Cold War tunnel is also worth a visit. Weapons and a 1950s American airplane are also on display in the castle. The castle is accessible via a 10-minute walk. Be careful with your shoes, as it can be slippery. I didn't find it particularly suitable for the elderly or those with high stature.

Die Burg von Gjirokastra ist absolut sehenswert und der Eintritt in Höhe von 400 LEK pro Person ist mehr als angemessen und jeden Cent wert. Wir waren mehrere Stunden in und auf der Burg und haben sicher nicht alles gesehen. Es handelt sich um eine Burg aus der osmanischen Zeit, welche samt der darunter liegenden Altstadt seit 2005 zum UNESCO Weltkulturerbe gehört. Die Stadt gilt als seltenes Beispiel einer gut erhaltenen osmanischen Handelsstadt auf dem Balkan und hat eine sehr, sehr gemütlichen und äußerst hübschen Stadtkern. Der Aufstieg zur Burg ist nicht für Gehbehinderte, Rollstuhlfahrer oder Kinderwagen geeignet. Ebenfalls stelle ich mir das erkunden der Burg für den genannten Personenkreis eher schwierig bis unmöglich vor. Man muss etliche Stufen gehen und gut zu Fuß sein. Möglicherweise gibt es aber einen anderen Weg welchen wir nur nicht kennengelernt haben. Die Burg ist sehr gut erhalten und es gibt eine Audio Guide Tour welche im Eintrittspreis enthalten ist. Hierfür wird Wifi zur Verfügung gestellt mittels QR Code kann man die Tour auf einigen Sprachen starten. Wir waren Anfang September bei 33 Grad auf der Burg und können es dennoch empfehlen. Es gibt zahlreiche Schattenplätze im freien und in der Burg ist es ohnehin kühler :) Ein gelungener Ausflug den wir wärmstens weiter empfehlen können. Auch gibt es einige Sicherheitsvorkehrungen in und auf der Burg sodass man sich keine Sorgen machen muss. Unser Ausflug endete mit einem sehr köstlichen Abendessen im Restaurant des Hotels Antonio Bineri. Wer äußerst gastfreundlich behandelt werden möchte, leckeres Essen zu sehr fairen Preisen, einen wunderschönen Ausblick genießen möchte und dabei ein gemütliches Ambiente zu schätzen weiß sollte sich dieses Restaurant in der Altstadt von Gjirokaster nicht entgehen lassen 🥰
