This trailhead is on private property. The land owners do not want hikers on their property. You should NOT go around the gate.

You can see this waterfall along the Cullowhee Trailhead (on the way to Cullowhee Falls). Just take a right at about 1.6 miles in - you'll hear it before you see it. You can also cross the stream to get closer. *Very slippery

These falls were originally called dead dog falls on account of a hunting dog chasing a bear off of them but no one liked that name so Hatcher falls it became and yes it's behind a gate in cullowhee forest subdivision.

Thurston Hatcher Falls was quite the surprise. Great water flow from a high elevation. This waterfall is about 1.6 miles from the Hwy 107 High falls trailhead. We enjoyed this easier gradual hike up and down the trails. The trail follows the down stream part of West Fork of the Tuckasegee River leading to the water fall. 3/21/2024
