Colombier Bay

Probably one of the most extraordinary beaches in Saint-Barth, and the fact that it requires some effort to reach it is a huge part of its beauty. Colombier Beach is located at the northwestern tip of Saint-Barthélemy and has a feature that has become rare on the island: no road leads there. It can only be reached by boat or on foot, via hiking trails. It is part of the protected areas of the Saint-Barthélemy Nature Reserve. We chose to go on foot, and in my opinion, this is an integral part of the experience. Depending on the trail you take and your pace, allow about 20 to 30 minutes for the walk. It's not an insurmountable hike, but it's not a stroll in flip-flops either; there are rocky sections, the sun can be very strong, and I recommend good shoes, water, and of course, sunscreen. The reward at the end is extraordinary. A vast bay, white sand, turquoise water, and virtually no buildings. After exploring the more easily accessible beaches of St. Barth, Colombier truly feels like a secluded haven. There's also a small piece of St. Barth's modern history here, as in the 1950s, David Rockefeller acquired a large property in Colombier and built a villa there—an event often associated with the beginnings of the island's development as a high-end international destination. The bay is also magnificent for swimming and snorkeling. Its protected areas are home to fish, seagrass beds, and sea turtles, which you might be lucky enough to spot. Above all, plan ahead, as there are no restaurants, bars, or shops on the beach. Bring water and anything else you might need to enjoy the place without having to leave immediately. We discovered many beautiful beaches during our stay in St. Barth, each with its own unique character, but Colombier is truly exceptional. The walk, the gradual approach to the bay, the absence of roads, the silence, the boats at anchor, and the incredible water give the place an almost surreal quality. Don't just come to take a picture and leave. Walk, swim, take the time to look around, and enjoy. Colombier is one of those places that reminds you why St. Barth is such an exceptional island. An absolute must-see.

Hard to get there but it was the most beautiful beach in the island. Unfortunately the reach had crowded the bay with boats.
