Kongo Falls: A Hidden Gem in Tokyo's Wilderness

Very important. This is a three tier fall. To see the full fall you must enter the cave type passage to the right. For a hiker you can take different routes to come here. Either take the path that google shows via the TEPCO substation or the one via the Kotokuji temple. There are directions to the falls so just try to follow them. I would recommend the temple path, it is shorter and better. I walked from the Musashi it... Station and there is a tunnel on the way. The noise of the vehicles crossing the tunnel was not a pleasant experience although it may be a new experience. There is path going to your left after the TEPCO substation ends. Also the noise of high voltage ⚡ transmission was not very pleasant. This is not the main review for this place. You will find more reviews at the adjacent marker.

Water drips from the steep tunnel cut out of the rock at the base of the waterfall. Once you pass through the tunnel, you will see the full view of Kongo Falls.

Great destination! Enjoyed the open trail and peaceful outdoor atmosphere.

Beautiful falls. Trail to get there is a little confusing and, at points, flooded. Followed Google maps around the substation. Continued straight onto the hiking trail. First sign there said falls 0.6 km. 0.2 km later and down a steep rough trail there is another, slightly harder to see sign. This one points to a trail off to the left and says falls are 0.4km away. At the bottom of this steep trail with many steps and chain hand rails there is another sign that points roughly towards the falls and says 0.4km. Not sure why the distance is the same. Here is where the trail was slightly flooded. Followed a gravel riverbed / trail to the falls. Lower falls are short. The upper falls are through a wet tunnel. Beautiful. Peaceful. Worth the hike down and back up. Parking is available at Komine park. If you don't want a rigorous hike walk around, not through, the park to the substation and trailhead.
