Mt. Kumotori (2,017m) is one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains and straddles the Tama area. The most common routes from Okutama Station are the "Nipponhara Route" and "Kamosawa Route," which have relatively gentle slopes and are well-maintained. Although a day trip (approximately 10 hours) is possible, it is recommended to take a 1-night, 2-day trip to allow ample time. Matsudaira

I took a bus from Okutama Station and embarked on a day trip to the mountains. I walked an astonishing 40,000 steps that day. After my first climb of Mount Takao, I was captivated by the allure of mountain climbing and formed a mountain climbing club. Over the course of a year, we gradually increased our altitude and finally reached Tokyo's highest peak. I saw the view from the summit. The sense of accomplishment was exceptional. I would recommend that every Tokyo resident climb this mountain at least once. This was back when I was in high school; I don't have that kind of stamina anymore.
