A truly exceptional hike that requires a reasonable level of fitness. If you choose the classic gravel path, which already offers a beautiful view, regular shoes will suffice. However, if you decide to climb all the way to the summit, good shoes with excellent grip, especially in wet or humid conditions, are essential (due to rocks and mud). From the top, you'll be able to see a section of the glacier. The hike is approximately 7km round trip with 600m of elevation gain.

Surreal views but is a challenging hike. This is my favorite hike! I honestly went in blind and I’m glad I did. I recommend taking more breaks and enjoy the view every chance you can get. The views are spectacular on a clear and sunny day. I suggest anybody visiting the southeast region of iceland must visit this place.

Honestly, this canyon was the highlight of our Iceland trip. It felt like we were in the Avatar world! It’s quite a hike to get there. at least 30 minutes if you’re an experienced hiker, and longer if you’re not, as the path leads uphill. There’s a fairly wide gravel road at first, but towards the top, the path becomes narrow and rocky. Make sure to wear proper hiking boots for your own safety.

September 1, 2026. This is my most recommended spot from my Iceland trip. As described in other reviews, the path up the mountain is almost entirely uphill, requiring walking on rocks and crossing a stream. Seeing the scenery here requires some physical exertion. I suggest allowing at least 3 hours if you want to reach the summit to fully enjoy the views. The scenery is beautiful at every turn. Even if you don't go to the summit, it's about a 1-1.5 hour walk from the parking lot to a viewpoint where you can see waterfalls, canyons, and distant glacial lagoons. It's a spectacular view and well worth seeing. If possible, definitely consider adding this to your itinerary.
