Having explored the islands for years, I can confidently say there are far better and nicer beaches in Hawaii than Kukio "keiki" beach. If you are looking for a great spot to spend the day, I would recommend checking out Mauna Kea Beach over this one any day. A major issue here is the parking situation—it’s notoriously difficult, the limited spots fill up extremely fast, and if you miss out early, there is nowhere else to park.

It is really great for playing with children. You have to go early to use the parking lot. It is a free beach, and the showers, restrooms, etc., are very clean and the environment is safe.

Read a review of beaches and this was the top. It was a great beach! A bit confusing what location is what but they have the park and parking lot location and then this. Parking lot was fine and I think there is a trail to the left just before the walkway entrance. Yes,to get here, you have to go to the guard gate and get a pass. It's a short drive to the parking area and there's limited parking! From there it's a short walk to the beach. There are bathroom facilities there. Beautiful beach lagoon for young kids can wait in the water. We watch some surfers on the north side of the beach. Also saw small turtle by the shore.
