Rock Formations of White Pocket, Arizona

White Pocket is absolutely stunning, unearthly, and just crazy. I honestly have never seen anything like it. The colors, shapes, and formations look like they belong on another planet, and even the tiny fish and bugs in the puddles look completely alien. The drive in is a little overrated, though. I expected it to be much harder, but it really wasn’t that bad. With decent conditions, any reasonable AWD vehicle should be able to handle it. But once you arrive, the scenery is absolutely insane. Every direction you look has something completely different and incredible. White Pocket definitely did not disappoint—it was even more impressive than I expected. If you’re anywhere near the area, this is 100% worth the drive!

White Pocket is a must see of the area. The only problem is the way there. It is a sandy street with many bumps, so you get shaken a lot. You can also get stuck and be unable to drive on. That makes a four wheel drive mandatory and not only that. To really be sure you need to deflate your tires before going into there (even though your rental company does not allow it; just reinflate them at the next gas station, when you are out). Otherwise, you can spend a while there without phone connection. A big PRO-TIP: Book a tour! They are barely more expensive than the Jeep rental and that takes away the hardest part. Additionally, you get valuable information and someone that knows the best spots. When you finally get to White Pocket you'll see the most amazing rock formations in beautiful coloring. Also a bit of hiking and rock climbing is possible. You can easily spend 2 or more hours there (without the drive there) and without getting bored. Prepare to be amazed.

An absolutely stunning are of natural beauty, especially if you have a love of interesting rock formations. We explored for hours and were stunned at the intrigue and beauty. A truly singular place, we had never seen anything like it. We came from Page, renting an offroad jeep from JeepBnb (highly recommended), and followed a laminated map that they gave us, which was perfect. This trip is not for the timid, though. It takes about 3 hours to drive each way from Page - about 1 hour on paved highway, about 30 minutes on the rough House Rock Valley Rd, and about 1h30m on the (deep) sandy roads east of it. We did it after 0.1 - 0.15" of rain in the previous 24 hours, and felt that (at least, in our beefy jeep) the warnings about the slick bentonite clay on House Rock Valley Rd were greatly overblown -- we didn't slip even an inch. But we were on the south end of that road; the north end is steeper and slicker and more claylike. (For reference, this was the 3rd time I've rented a jeep for offroading somewhere, and I have never owned one.)
