  • Look for the 1932 & 1980 Winter Olympics Museum, where you can learn about Lake Placid’s Olympic history.

Afternoon: Visit John Brown’s Farm

  • Drive 5 minutes from downtown to John Brown Farm State Historic Site, the home and burial place of famed abolitionist John Brown.

Day 2: Mount Marcy Hike – The Highest Peak in New York

Morning: Early Start for Hiking Mount Marcy

  • Drive about 20 minutes to the Adirondack Loj Trailhead at Heart Lake, the most popular starting point for climbing Mount Marcy.
  • Known as the highest peak in New York State at 5,344 feet, this challenging 14- to 16-mile round-trip hike will take between 7-10 hours, so start early.
  • Trail markers are generally in good condition, leading you through forested paths, alpine meadows, and past the gorgeous Indian Falls. The summit rewards hikers with panoramic views of surrounding peaks and valleys.

Afternoon: Pack Snacks and Hydration

  • Bring plenty of water, high-energy snacks, and a packed lunch to enjoy on the summit or during rest breaks.
  • Be mindful of changing weather conditions at higher elevations – a light jacket is recommended even in August.

Evening: Recovery Time

  • After the vigorous hike, treat yourself to a hearty meal at The Lake Placid Pub & Brewery, famous for its local craft beers and comfort food.
  • Spend the evening relaxing at your lodging.

Day 3: Canoeing on Saranac Lake and High Falls Gorge

Morning: Paddle the Saranac Lake Chain

  • Drive 20 minutes west to the Saranac Lake Chain, a pristine network of interconnected lakes known for its calm waters and scenic beauty.

Just wonderful! One of my top hikes ever 🙂🙂

Highest point in the state of NY. If you are high pointing, this is the 7th longest hike (assuming you always take the easiest route) and the 7th most vertical, so come prepared. None of it is technical or very step, but most hikers will start to fatigue after hours or more of hiking and 15 plus miles. Vertical gain is 4400-ish feet.

Such a great and challenging experience. Get there before 5am to find parking especially on weekends. Go check in and see the daily reports for the climb, and then bring lots of water and protein!

My first real hiked & it was a blast! Sadly didn't make it all the way to the top due to a time crunch, But was still amazing

Long tiring hike but otherwise a beautiful journey. I recommend starting before sunrise, especially if you are a slow hiker. It takes almost all day(literally all day for some) unless you are trail running it with a light pack. Be prepared.
