Such a fun hike out to the falls! It felt like we were in a Hawaiian jungle. We took our dog out with us and enjoyed a few hours swimming and sunbathing on the rocks.

My wife and I drove up to Burke County near Brown Mountain and hiked on the North Harper Creek Falls trail. We committed the cardinal sin of hiking - going off trail near an old abandoned house and I almost stepped on an Eastern Diamondback rattle snake and had the daylights scared out of me (us)...but I didn't so it was a good day... although this trail WAS pretty rigorous and we did come away with a few battle scars! 🐍 This trail is 2.8-mile out-and-back trail and is near Collettsville, North Carolina. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it is quite a hike in spots. It takes an average of 1 h 16 min to complete at a minimum. I'm told the best times to visit this trail are March through October.

Not too hard of a hike but might be difficult for some. I gotta give this place a 3.5 on the sandwhichometer because of the amount of flies. I am no stranger to nature but there were so many flies I swear some laid eggs in my ears. Closer you get to the falls the less flies there are atleast. Strayed from the usually ham and cheese and ate a pastrami Sandwhich. Falls were nice to sit by and some really scenic spots on the trail too.

We've camped here numerous times and love it every visit. The trees and island area beneath the falls were unfortunately wiped out by Helene, but still a beautiful spot. We enjoyed lunch on the rock face above the falls then hiked to the rock face below the falls for some play time in the pools. Very few bugs over Memorial day weekend.
