Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park

Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is a remarkable natural area located near Copeland in Southwest Florida. It stands out as one of the largest and most diverse preserves in the Everglades region, showcasing an extensive subtropical wilderness that supports rare and endangered species. This park is especially notable for its ancient strand swamp, an unusual linear forest of towering cypress trees and lush hardwoods that trace an old riverbed, offering visitors a glimpse into Florida’s natural past.

The 11-mile Janes Scenic Drive offers a rugged dirt road adventure through varied ecosystems. Interpretive signs educate visitors on the complex ecology of the Everglades while well-maintained boardwalks make wildlife viewing accessible and safe.
