The Allure of Nara Park: A Japanese Oasis

Come to Nara with a one-day chartered tour I was originally scheduled to come here in the afternoon But there was a traffic jam when picking up passengers from Osaka to Kyoto by chartered car. We just moved Nara attractions to the morning There are many deer in Nara Park Deer poop is like pearls scattered on the floor The tour guide said not to feed the male deer but to take care of the fawns and doe. The antlers on the buck's head were all plucked off It’s so cute how they bow when asking for food Feed deer senbei to deer basically in a place where there are few deer smoke Otherwise, you will be besieged and robbed of food.

A lovely place, especially to see the deer roaming freely.

The deer are calm before the deer cracker shop opens. I met two young deer on the way to Kasuga Taisha Shrine.

I am a little bit disconcerted after my visit mid-March. On one hand, I deeply love animals and I reckon it is a wonderful experience to walk through the park among so many deers. The park is incredibly rich and large. On the other hand I saw the deers being humiliated in several ways: some people doing back-and-forth with their shika-senbei ("safe" food for deers sold at 200¥ per pack in many places in the park) to play with the deers, bowing to make them bow before loudly making fun of how tamed they are, approaching a deer to take photos of its face at less than 20cm from different angles and then go back without showing any consideration or respect for the living animal ... I do not think the people I saw misbehaving were doing so consciously. I think having animal lovers delivering some education inside the park (in addition to the simple rules listed at the shika-senbei stands) on how to behave with respect with the deers and how beautiful and smart animals they are would be highly beneficial to improve this place !
