Canoeing the Indian River in Dominica

Surprisingly interesting boat trip up the lovely Indian River with Aza, a guide recommended to us and I know why. He was knowledgable and had a great eye for the abundant wildlife we saw: several species of birds, three species of crabs, mating iguanas and more species of plants than we could count. The trip exceeded our expectations and was a lovely, quiet, yet very interesting way to spend a couple of hours.

Azah was a great guide. Along with the river, he took us on many hikes. He kept all 6 of us prepared and safe on some challenging hikes. He knows the ecology and history of the island. It's worth it to hire a trained guide like Azah, especially for your first visit. Some trails are not well marked, and a guide really is necessary.

Great atmosphere! Fairly short visit given the price.

Incredibly great place and an incredibly beautiful experience. No cruise ship in Dominica and so we were almost alone on the river. We went with Gregory and he is the best guide ever. The spontaneous tour with him afterwards into the mountains, with a visit to a small plantation and a beautiful waterfall, was also great. We were on the road for around 4 hours in total and Gregory took the time to introduce us to the fauna and flora.
