Starting from the lake, it is about 5.6 kilometers to potato chip rock. My foot strength is not very good, so it is recommended to evaluate carefully. It takes about 2 hours to go up the mountain and about 1 hour and 40 minutes to go down. I am considered a brave person🦶 But it is indeed a good time and place to get close to nature.

We arrived at Lake Poway at 7:30 am plenty of parking but a 10$ fee is charged at the entrance if you're NOT a Poway resident. We got to the Peak/ Rock around 9:15. Expect a line if you're trying to take a picture at the Rock. Made it back to the lake around 11:10 am.

Beautiful hike, and great place to watch the sunrise! I took the trail that begins off of highway 67, which is shorter (about 4mi total, going out and back) and pretty much fully paved. The actual Potato Chip rock is western facing, however the view climbing up the mountain and at the top is gorgeous during sunrise! There are plenty of spots to stop for pictures and breaks as you make your way up. The trail is pretty steep so be sure to bring water especially if going during the day because of the lack of tree coverage. Even though I arrived around 5:30a, people were already out and about on the trail, so if you want a picture on the rock, aim going earlier to avoid a long line. No bathrooms, dog friendly, and saw people of all ages so this should be suitable for pretty much anyone!
