Nature's Haven at Paraiso Quetzal Lodge

I was hesitant to book based on mixed reviews. However, staying here was the best decision I could’ve made! The staff work well to ensure guests are taken care of and communicated well despite me not speaking Spanish. We rented a car and drove to the lodge from the airport. I’d recommend a 4x4 or AWD car as the roads around the lodge are iffy. Our room was a bit of a hike away, 5ish min walk uphill. If mobility is an issue, let the team know when you book. We did a half board which included breakfast and dinner. The restaurant is nothing life changing but it was fit for purpose and we enjoyed it. The hummingbird garden is gorgeous. The room wasn’t super cozy as others have said in their reviews (mattresses are hard and the bench in our room was wooden and upright). This didn’t bother me as the point was to get out and explore the forest. We did the quetzal tour and were lucky enough to see a male and female quetzal, David was a great guide. The grounds on the lodge are stunning and the trails were so much fun. We stayed in a superior bungalow which we parked right out front, had a jacuzzi/bath and a beautiful view. The lodge provides heaters and lots of extra blankets. We were able to stay warm, but even in May the forest gets cold at night due to elevation. If you are looking for luxury, perhaps there are other places for you to stay. If you are looking for a eco lodge that is well maintained, great staff, and beautiful trails and nature, I would highly recommend this place! I hope to return one day.

A hotel to disconnect and relax. Variety of trails, excellent service and good food.

We chose this hotel for the chance to see the Resplendent Quetzal, and we were lucky enough to spot one on our first visit during the excursion we booked with them. The facilities are well-maintained, and the grounds and private roads are excellent, although you do need to be in good physical shape. The altitude of 2,700 meters is noticeable, as it gets quite cold at night. We saw many birds, and there's even a chance of seeing tapirs. They even have a beautiful hummingbird garden where you can easily observe and photograph them.

Great destination! Enjoyed the open trail and peaceful outdoor atmosphere.
