Lake Bliss at Paul M. Grist State Park

Great destination! Enjoyed the open trail and peaceful outdoor atmosphere.

Nice small park-11 spots all with full hookups. They have a dump station but doesn’t look like it’s been used in years but it’s there if needed. Very reasonable price at $19 with senior discount. They permit reservations or first come first serve. Sites are level with little fluctuations so good overall. Beautiful lake. All eleven spots are on the lake. They have a bath house with shower. Miles of hiking trails. Randy and Roger were friendly and helpful. Grass is well maintained. The road in and out is very narrow so if you have a class A or larger trailer you may not be able to pass another coming in the opposite direction. And backing up due to the winding road up and down the hillside will be tough. Best to call ahead and they will let you know all is clear to proceed in or out. Now for the disappointments. For $19 I guess I shouldn’t complain. We’ve been to many county, state and city parks in the southeast. This park is the most neglected park I’ve experienced. No, beach even though they have a swimming area it’s a stone wall to access. They have a Jon boat and paddle boat to rent but neither were accessible. I didn’t see any life jackets. The paddle boat was full with dirty water. The Jon boat was at the end of the park and no oars that we could see. The office was the dirtiest place I’ve ever seen along with the building exterior. Cob webs galore. Honestly, I bet the office and building haven’t been cleaned in five years. And a nice paint job on and out would be welcoming. The bathroom and showers are mediocre at best. The picnic area and shelters haven’t been pressure washed in just as long. The trash can bins are all broken or falling apart. The fishing dock is an accident waiting to happen and should be shut down. The playground equipment is from the sixties and needs painting and maintenance. The rv spots need gravel added and raked. The timber boarders are missing on most. Fire pits are rusted and crumbling if they have one at all. Lot picnic tables are tossed here and there. Would I come back? Yes but knowing what I know it wouldn’t be my first choice. Overall, if they put 1-2 months into cleaning and upkeep this park could be a 5 star. I gave it three because you can’t give it a 2.5 star.

We love this park! It's small, quiet and we always feel like we're the only people there. Our kids love fishing, playing on the playground, riding bikes, playing in the water, and seeing the horses coming off the trails.

The Geese were everywhere, piers and docks are in desperate need of repair, playground was closed but looked in desperate need of repair. We never found the beach, boat rentals, and nothing looked like the pictures. Thank goodness it was super affordable to get in!
