The Valbona–Theth hike was absolutely amazing! The trail is definitely not easy, especially if you’re carrying backpacks, but the views and the experience make it completely worth it. I highly recommend hiking from Valbona to Theth rather than the opposite direction. One big advantage is that you finish in Theth, where you can simply continue your trip by car, instead of finishing in Valbona and having to deal with the ferry journey afterward. I also recommend starting early, around 6:00–6:30 AM, and arranging a ride from your accommodation toward the beginning of the trail. Important tip: There are basically two points where you can be dropped off. A regular car can reach the first one, but from there you still have around 2–3 km on a very rocky road before reaching the actual trail. If possible, arrange a 4x4 or high-clearance vehicle that can take you all the way through this section. It saves you from walking a few unnecessary kilometers over rocks before the real hike even begins. Challenging, especially with backpacks, but an incredible experience and definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Albania! ⛰️🇦🇱

Actually stunning hike, really not too hard. Well travelled with great views all the way up, in addition to lovely little guest houses in the surrounding villages. If you are going in spring/autumn though, I would just be careful about checking which trail is open. Do not blindly follow all trails- there may be more snow than you anticipate. Also if you see red tape, don’t go straight through it (we were very stupid).

Beautiful hiking route. Moderate to difficult hike due to steep sections and terrain that requires caution. The highlight of the trail is well worth it. Bring plenty of food and drink along the way. There are two places to buy drinks, but food is quite scarce. Bring plenty of water and start early in the morning to avoid the tourist rush!
