I visited Hazrat Shah Jalal (R.) Mazar in Sylhet on September 7, 2026, with my friend Sagar. My friend Kawsar had invited us for a meal at Hotel Star Pacific. After having dinner there, Sagar and I went to Shah Jalal (R.) Mazar while waiting for Kawsar. Although I have visited this place countless times throughout my life, every visit still feels somewhat special. I spent around 6–7 years of my life in Sylhet city, so Shah Jalal (R.) Mazar is a very familiar and memorable place for me. I have probably been here a thousand times in different stages of my life. During this visit, we walked around the area and spent some time observing the surroundings. One of the things that caught my attention was the pond and the huge Gozar fish swimming in it. These giant fish are one of the interesting features visitors often notice when visiting the shrine. I also went near the grave of Hazrat Shah Jalal (R.). Unfortunately, as we visited at night, the main shrine was closed, so I could not enter the shrine itself. Still, being there and seeing the familiar surroundings brought back many memories of my years in Sylhet. Hazrat Shah Jalal (R.), also known as Shah Jalal Mujarrad Yemeni, is one of the most revered Sufi saints associated with the spread of Islam in the Sylhet region. According to widely accepted historical traditions, he arrived in Sylhet in the early 14th century and played an important role in the religious history of the region. His spiritual influence continued long after his death, and his shrine became one of the most important religious and historical sites in Sylhet. The shrine complex has become a significant destination for both devotees and visitors. People come here to offer prayers, seek blessings, pay their respects, and experience the peaceful spiritual atmosphere surrounding the historic site. For me, however, this place is more than just a tourist or religious destination. Because I spent such a significant part of my life in Sylhet, Shah Jalal (R.) Mazar is connected with many personal memories. This visit was simple—just a short walk around the area with Sagar after dinner—but it became another small memory in a place I have visited countless times. If you are visiting Sylhet, Hazrat Shah Jalal (R.) Mazar is definitely one of the places worth visiting, both for its spiritual significance and its deep connection with the history and culture of Sylhet.
