About This Adventure Destination

Ringing Rocks County Park, located near Upper Black Eddy in Pennsylvania, is a fascinating natural destination known for its unusual rock formations and scenic surroundings. This park is most famous for its field of “ringing” boulders—large diabase rocks that produce bell-like tones when struck, a rare geological phenomenon that intrigues both scientists and visitors alike. These boulders are a part of a unique igneous rock formation created under intense pressure millions of years ago, resulting in the sound-producing quality.

Beyond the sonorous rocks, the park also features a charming 15-foot waterfall that adds to the scenic beauty and provides an excellent spot for nature photography and quiet reflection. The surrounding forest, primarily composed of deciduous trees, offers a peaceful environment for hiking and leisurely walks.

The park has a rich local history, with legends and lore about the “ringing” rocks dating back centuries. Naturalists and curious families alike often visit to experience this one-of-a-kind acoustic geological spectacle. The combination of sound, nature, and scenic trails makes it an engaging destination distinct from other typical parks in the region.

Whether you're intrigued by geology, looking for a unique outdoor experience, or simply want to enjoy a quiet afternoon near natural waters and rock formations, Ringing Rocks County Park provides a memorable visit for all ages.

Unique and fun little stop along our route but I wouldn't make a long drive here specifically. Not handicap friendly at all. Our mild CP kiddo had a lot of trouble getting very far into the rocks and elderly stayed on the outside perimeter too. And the bathrooms were some of the worst we have EVER been in!!! I wouldn't even let my kids enter into them, definitely do a wild wee.
