The west shore of Tenaya Lake is an ideal place to begin your kayaking adventure. Accessible via a small parking area off of Tioga Road, this spot features shallow waters that are perfect for those new to kayaking. The nearby sandy beach offers a convenient launch site, and the surrounding scenery includes breathtaking views of Tenaya Peak and Polly Dome. 2. Central Lake Exploration From the center of the lake, you’ll enjoy unobstructed 360-degree vistas of Yosemite’s granite cliffs and verdant forests. Mid-lake paddling allows for a serene experience, far removed from the shoreline bustle, and is ideal for capturing photos or simply soaking in the majestic surroundings. Be sure to paddle over the distinct underwater rock formations that are visible in the lake’s transparent waters. 3. Eastern Shore Serenity The eastern shore is quieter, with fewer visitors compared to the west side. This area is known for its peaceful ambiance and sheltered coves. Tuck into a secluded spot to relax between paddling sessions. Wildlife sightings, like merganser ducks and occasional deer near the water’s edge, are common here, adding an unfiltered natural touch to your trip.

Tenaya Lake was named after Chief Tenaya of the Ahwahnechee people, whose heritage remains a meaningful part of Yosemite's cultural landscape. The lake's calm waters are a result of its glacial origin, adding to its clarity and unique alpine environment.
