Sunset Serenity at Kendwa Beach Resort

The resort has growth potential but needs an open mind. The Egyptian management makes it extremely Muslim, and the bar is completely alcohol-free. It doesn't seem logical to have to go out to buy drinks when they could be sold in the resort! The food also needs improvement.

Disappointing experience despite high expectations. I stayed at Canary Kendwa Resort with my family this August. We had read many positive reviews online and arrived expecting a wonderful holiday. Unfortunately, once we arrived, we quickly realized that the pictures and reality were quite different. The hotel is advertised as having been renovated, but during our stay, it was difficult to see what exactly had been renovated. In fact, some areas appeared quite dated and in need of refurbishment. The room itself was clean, but the towels were very old and had loose threads, while the bathroom is a separate issue altogether (I have attached photos). The lighting in the room was also very dim. The Wi-Fi was unreliable and frequently stopped working, and we also experienced frequent power outages. The food was satisfactory, but there was a clear problem with the coffee. The filter coffee served at breakfast, lunch, and dinner was really unpleasant. If you wanted decent coffee, you could order one made with the coffee machine at the bar, but this came at an additional cost. The bar and restaurant staff were very attentive, friendly, and helpful, which unfortunately cannot be said about the reception staff. The beach towel cards were not provided together with the room keys, so we had to go back to reception to collect them separately. Even then, we were given only one card because, apparently, there were no more available. Our request to have the remaining cards brought to our room was simply ignored. As a result, every time we went to the beach, we had to explain why we only had one card, which was very inconvenient. The construction work next to the hotel was not the hotel’s fault, but it definitely affected our stay. A new hotel is being built nearby, and there was construction noise and dust throughout the day. At times, fires were also lit at the construction site, and the smoke, dust, and unpleasant smell reached the guests at Canary Kendwa. This made it difficult to fully relax and enjoy the surroundings. On the positive side, the hotel has a great location, right on the beachfront, and the restaurant and bar staff deserve special mention for their excellent service. Overall, however, the experience did not meet our expectations, especially considering the many positive reviews we had read beforehand. If I ever return to Zanzibar, I would choose a different hotel.

Located on the most beautiful and characteristic stretch of beach in Kendwa, the village offers international cuisine with an Italian chef. The only drawback is that they don't sell alcohol, but you can buy it in the bars and shops outside the village and still consume it inside.

This hotel is a disgrace when it comes to food for everyone. Powdered soup, tasteless meals, no real cooking. It's a shame, the island is surely full of talented cooks who are in high demand. No alcohol served. The rooms are decent, even improving. The location and gardens are perfect. The beach and its amenities are excellent.
