ANNA BAY ATTRACTION FIELD GUIDE
Ride the Earth, Ride the Wave — The Ultimate TwinThrill at Anna Bay
A focused half‑day that pairs sandboarding on Stockton Sand Dunes with a surf lesson at One Mile Beach, useful for planning the precise timing and gear needed for both activities.
Ride the Earth, Ride the Wave — The Ultimate TwinThrill at Anna Bay.
The Ultimate TwinThrill stitches two of Port Stephens’ elemental experiences into one compact outing: a 4WD‑assisted sandboarding tour across the towering Stockton Sand Dunes followed by a surf lesson on the long, rolling shoreline of One Mile Beach. Expert operators run both components, tailoring instruction to ability while placing you squarely in stark coastal desert and ocean settings in a single day.

Sandboarding the Stockton Sand Dunes
Set out with 4WD Tours R US to cross the towering Stockton Sand Dunes and experience guided sandboarding that combines local interpretation of the dunes’ natural and cultural values with high‑adrenaline descents.
Surf lessons at One Mile Beach
After the dunes you join Port Stephens Surf School on One Mile Beach for a group surf lesson tailored for beginners and mixed ages, focusing on white‑water practice and getting students standing up on their boards.
A tight, linked half‑day
The itinerary links sandboarding departures to fixed surf lesson times so you can plan a combined experience in a single visit to Port Stephens — choose your sandboarding slot to match the surf school’s 10:00 or 13:00 group lessons.
What the day feels like
What the day feels like
The TwinThrill is rhythm and contrast: a gritty, wind‑scoured start on the dunes with 4WD access and guided runs on a sandboard, then a sea‑salted finish in chest‑deep water learning to ride white‑water waves. Guides and instructors structure both activities to your ability so the day moves from terrain to tide with focused instruction and a clear timing pattern.

Details to review before reserving
The combined experience is structured so sandboarding departures link to the surf school’s two daily group lessons at 10:00 and 13:00; select your sandboarding time to automatically join the desired surf lesson.
Carry water, sunscreen, a hat, a camera, and a light jacket; socks can be handy for kids if sand is hot. The operator recommends extra water, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
Meet at Oakvale Wildlife Park / 4WD Tours R US for check‑in. Note that local car parks are council operated and are paid parking with machines in top and bottom car parks.

Frequently asked questions
Planning Your Outing
Do I accept any risks by booking?
By booking you accept these activities are dangerous and can result in injury, you accept the risks involved, and you are responsible for your own actions and involvement.
What if I have concerns about my ability to participate?
If you have concerns you are not obliged to participate or complete the activities; raise any unclear points at the activity briefing with a member of the 4WD Tours R US team.
Are there age rules or parental consent requirements?
A counter signature by a parent, guardian or responsible adult is mandatory for persons under 16 years of age; this applies to all participants.
What about dogs or other pets?
No dogs are allowed in the national parks, so pets cannot be taken to the sandboarding hill or in operator vehicles and no refunds will be given for failure to make prior arrangements; do not leave pets in cars during the activity.
How long are the surf lessons and will group size affect duration?
Port Stephens Surf School group sessions are 1.5 hours, but if there are fewer than four people in a group lesson it will not run the full 1.5 hours — the duration will be reduced depending on group size; group lessons can have up to 16 participants.
How long is the sandboarding component?
Sandboarding ticket durations are approximately two hours for each activity, but the second last and last tours of the day may allow only 1.5 or 1 hour of sandboarding time because of national park licence requirements.
