Outing Highlights

THE LANDSCAPE

Caldera views, lagoons and miradouros

The routes take you into the interior of the Sete Cidades caldera and up to ridgelines and viewpoints that frame the twin lagoons and surrounding volcanic terrain — an exercise in contrasting lowland lakeside trails and exposed volcanic crests.

THE ROUTES

Four itineraries for rising levels of challenge

There are four mapped itineraries ranging from a 16‑km beginner caldera loop (about 2 hours) to a 36‑km ridgeline route (about 6 hours), allowing you to choose a route that matches your fitness and technical comfort.

THE PRACTICALITIES

Self‑guided with full kit included

These are self‑guided e‑MTB outings supplied with helmets, gloves, GPS with the route, detailed maps and repair and first‑aid kits so you can navigate and ride independently while retaining essential safety support.

What the day feels like

How the ride unfolds

Expect to ride at your own tempo along a mix of dirt roads, trails and park paths: shorter, gentler circuits skirt the caldera interior while longer itineraries climb to ridgelines and pass multiple miradouros and lagoons. The e‑assist lets riders cover greater ground and tackle steep sections without losing the ability to stop and take in the views.

Suitability

Who it's for

Who these self‑guided e‑MTB itineraries suit — and who should think twice.

1
Beginners & Nature LoversThe 16 km beginner itinerary is tailored for riders new to the area who want easy access to caldera sights without technical exposure.
2
Intermediate RidersMid‑level routes (22 km and 30 km) suit riders with some experience who want longer rides with occasional technical sections and multiple viewpoints.
3
Experienced Mountain BikersThe 36 km ridgeline itinerary is aimed at fit, technically capable riders seeking longer, mountainous trails and sustained climbs.
4
Families with Older ChildrenChildren can ride if they meet equipment constraints: there are bicycles for children of at least 150 cm in height; inform the operator in advance to secure sizes.
