THE BOAT

Commander Runabout — compact power and comfort

A 20-foot runabout with a 150 HP outboard and a 30-gallon fuel tank, laid out for comfortable seating for up to six people and all the day’s gear; the operator supplies all required safety equipment and a radio for contact with Katherine Landing.

THE ROUTE

Twelve miles of coves and quiet shoreline

From Katherine Landing you can cruise a 12-mile radius of Lake Mohave to reach sheltered coves and beaches where the runabout’s shallow draft makes it easy to beach and relax onshore.

THE RULES

Strict restrictions mean planning matters

The National Park has banned all pool toys on Lake Mohave and the operator forbids towing any water accessories (tubes, wakeboards, kneeboards, or similar equipment); note also that some short-duration rentals are limited by season and inventory.

What the day feels like

What the day feels like

It’s a compact, engine-forward day: push the 150 HP outboard out of Katherine Landing, point toward a nearby cove, and trade speed for sheltered beach time. The boat’s layout keeps the group together—six people and gear—while the supplied safety kit and radio let you leave dock-side worries behind and focus on short runs between coves or a long beached afternoon.

Suitability

Who it's for

Who this rental suits — and who should reconsider.

1
Small groups and familiesWith seating for up to six people and room for gear, the runabout is well suited to small groups or families who want flexibility to move between coves and beach the boat for breaks.
2
Day trippers and picnickersIdeal for a full-day outing or a multi-hour escape to shoreline lunch spots, provided you respect the park’s ban on pool toys and the operator’s no-tow rule for water accessories.
3
Groups needing towable water sportsNot a match: towing tubes, wakeboards, kneeboards, or similar accessories is prohibited on rental boats, so plan non-towed water options instead.
4
Spontaneous rentersPartial match — 4-hour rentals are available but only as same-day walk-ins when inventory allows, and 2-hour rentals are not offered during the summer; check availability before assuming a short slot.
