7 Days on Flinders: Sea-Kayak the Granite Coast of Flinders Island
A guided, 7-day sea-kayak expedition around Flinders Island that covers coastline paddling, optional scenic charter flights, and six nights at Sawyers Bay Beach Shacks with meals included.
7 Days on Flinders: Sea-Kayak the Granite Coast of Flinders Island.
Flinders Island, the largest of the 52 Furneaux Group islands in Bass Strait, unfolds as a paddler’s landscape of orange granite headlands, white-sand bays and crystal-clear water. Over seven days you’ll move deliberately along that coastline—slipping between boulders, landing at secluded coves and returning each evening to Sawyers Bay Beach Shacks for food, rest and sunset over Bass Strait.
Highlights
Outing Highlights
Coastal paddling through bays and island skerries
Daily routes are chosen by the guides to suit weather and participants, but typical paddling takes you through places such as Sawyers Beach, Killiecrankie Bay, Tanners Bay and the small offshore isles of Franklin Sound—each offering clear water, granite boulder mazes and quiet landing beaches.
Sawyers Bay Beach Shacks: evenings ashore
Six nights are spent at Sawyers Bay Beach Shacks, a private beach camp where guests share facilities, gather at a large dining table and watch the sunset over Bass Strait while meals and a nightly drink are provided.
Marine life, Aboriginal history and island stories
Clear water invites encounters with fish and, often, dolphins; when weather limits paddling, the trip can include walks, a visit to the Wybalenna Aboriginal settlement and the Furneaux Museum to connect paddling days with local history.

What the week feels like
The week is paced around the elements: mornings and afternoons of gentle sea kayaking—typically about two to three hours each session—broken by beach stops for swims, snorkel or exploration, and evenings spent at the Sawyers Bay shacks sharing fresh island produce and watching the changing light over Strzelecki Peak.
