A fact-driven guide to fishing charters aboard the 45-foot Sea Dream out of Hatteras, explaining boat features, trip options, and what to expect on deck.
Aboard the Sea Dream: Offshore Fishing from Cape Hatteras’ Edge.
The Sea Dream is a 45-foot charter built for offshore work and comfort — a climate-controlled salon, a private head and a bridge for a captain’s-eye view sit alongside tournament-grade systems. Operating out of the Cape Hatteras area, the boat’s Carolina-flare hull and wide 14-foot beam make long runs to Hatteras and Oregon Inlet productive and, when seas are rough, remarkably dry.

Outing Highlights
A purpose-built 45-foot Carolina charter
Sea Dream was built in 1977 by Bobby Sullivan as a custom North Carolina charter boat: 45 feet long with a 14-foot beam and the characteristic Carolina flare that delivers a dry ride. She’s maintained as a no-nonsense, fish-catching machine and is USCG licensed and approved for up to six guests.
Tournament-grade systems and fight chairs
Onboard electronics and tackle support serious offshore fishing: dual 500hp FPT engines, diesel generator, Garmin radar, Furuno depth sounder/fish finder, chart plotter, GPS, two VHF radios and an assortment of fighting chairs including a 130 lb class chair and two sailfish chairs.
Climate-controlled salon and a captain’s bridge
The salon offers AC and heat, comfortable seating, a microwave, sink and a 26-inch flat-screen TV with DVD. Guests are invited to climb to the bridge for a bird’s-eye view and to hear the captain’s perspective on the day’s fishing.
What the day feels like
What the trip feels like
Expect the rhythm of an offshore day: board at the marina, run to the Hatteras and Oregon Inlet grounds, set tackle from roomy gunwales and, between shots at fish, retreat to a climate-controlled salon. The Sea Dream combines the mechanical muscle and electronics of a performance charter with creature comforts that make full-day trips manageable for small groups.
