Rumbling Bald Rock Climbing

Rumbling Bald Rock Climbing (Asheville)

Rumbling Bald Rock Climbing & Bouldering: In 2008, the state parks system acquired a tract of land for Chimney Rock State Park that assures public access to this climbing wonderland. The mountain’s cliffs are known for their ultra-classic crack climbing, thin face climbs and overhanging sport routes while the park is also home to world-class bouldering opportunities, attractive to both skilled free climbers and beginners seeking small climbs that doesn’t require abundant technical equipment. The area has over 1000 boulder problems and hundreds of routes to choose from.

Directions from Asheville:  From downtown Asheville follow Highway 240 east.  After 240 east crosses I-40, 240 east turns into US 74A.  Continue on US-74A east  to where 74A combines with US 64 and SR 9 near Bat Cave. At the south end of the town of Chimney Rock, take Boys Camp Road for approximately 1.5 miles to the parking area for Rumbling Bald on the left.
